Deleting your Telegram account is a permanent action that removes all your chats, media, contacts, and other data from Telegram's servers. Unlike some apps, Telegram doesn't offer a temporary deactivation.

There are two main ways to delete your Telegram account:

Method 1: Immediate Deletion via Web Browser (Recommended for quick deletion)

This is the most common and direct way to instantly delete your account. You can do this from any web browser on your computer or phone.

Go to the Telegram Deactivation Page: Open your web browser and navigate to: https://my.telegram.org/delete

Enter your phone number: On this page, enter the phone number associated with your Telegram account, including your country code (e.g., +1 for the US, +880 for Bangladesh). Then click "Next".

Get the Confirmation Code: A confirmation code will be sent to your Telegram app (not via SMS). Open your Telegram app and find the message from "Telegram" with the code.

Enter the Confirmation Code: Go back to the web browser, enter the confirmation code you received in the designated field, and click "Sign In".

Confirm Deletion: You'll see a page with options. Click on "Delete Account" (or "Delete My Account").

Provide a Reason (Optional): You may be asked to provide a reason for leaving. You can choose to enter one or leave it blank.

Final Confirmation: Read the warnings carefully about what happens when you delete your account. Then, click the red "Delete My Account" button, and then confirm with "Yes, delete my account" in the pop-up.

Your Telegram account will be permanently deleted immediately. You won't be able to recover it or any of your data. If you wish to use Telegram again with the same phone number, you'll need to wait a few days before you can register a new account.

Method 2: Automatic Deletion via Inactivity (Self-Destruct)

Telegram has a built-in "self-destruct" feature that automatically deletes your account if it remains inactive for a specified period. This is useful if you simply want your account to disappear after a while without manually going through the deletion process.

Open the Telegram app: Launch Telegram on your iPhone or Android device.

Go to Settings:

iPhone: Tap on "Settings" in the bottom right corner.

Android: Tap the three horizontal lines (menu icon) in the top left corner, then tap "Settings".

Navigate to Privacy and Security: Scroll down and tap on "Privacy and Security".

Find "Delete my account" section: Scroll down further until you see the "Delete my account" section.

Tap "If away for": You'll see an option like "If away for [time period]". Tap on this.

Choose a time period: You can select from options like 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. Choose the shortest period (1 month) if you want your account deleted as soon as possible due to inactivity.

Stop using Telegram: Once you've set this, simply stop logging into or using your Telegram account on any device. If you don't log in for the duration you've selected, your account will be automatically deleted.

Important Considerations Before Deleting:

Permanent Action: Account deletion is irreversible. All your chats, contacts, media, and other data associated with your account will be permanently removed.

Export Your Data: If you have important chats or media you want to keep, you can export your Telegram data using the Telegram Desktop app before deleting your account. Go to Settings > Advanced > Export Telegram Data.

Group Ownership: If you created any groups or channels, they will become "orphaned" (without an owner) after your account is deleted. Consider transferring ownership to another member before deleting.

Inform Contacts: It's a good idea to inform your important contacts that you'll be deleting your account and how they can reach you on other platforms.

Uninstalling the app is NOT deleting the account: Simply uninstalling the Telegram app from your phone does not delete your account. Your account remains active on Telegram's servers.

Choose the method that best suits your needs for deleting your Telegram account.
